What was typed in

“Fenwick Opticians, independent, been on the same street since 1974. Eye tests, frames you won't see in the chains, and we do the NHS vouchers. Older customers mostly, some of them have been coming forty years. Needs to be easy to read. Build me a site.”

Everything below — the palette, the typefaces, the section order — came from that paragraph.

Independent · on the same street since 1974

An independent optician, on the same street since 1974

Fenwick Opticians has been in the same place since 1974. We're independent, which means we choose our own frames and take our own time — no scripts, no rush, no pressure to walk out with something you didn't want. Some of our customers have been coming to us for forty years, and we'd like to think that says more than anything we could write here.

Independent, and staying that way

We're not part of a chain and never have been. That's the whole difference: nobody sets a target for what we sell you, and nobody sends us a frame range we didn't pick. When you sit down with us, the only thing being worked out is what suits your eyes and your face.

Same street since 1974

Customers we've known a long time

A good part of our day is spent with people we've been seeing for decades — we know their prescriptions, we know which frames they got on with and which ones they didn't, and we know when something has changed. That history is the reason people keep walking back through the same door, and it's the reason we take the time we do with anyone coming in for the first time.

What we do

Eye care and eyewear, done properly and without a queue behind you.

  • Eye tests
  • Frames from independent makers you won't see in the chains
  • NHS optical vouchers accepted
  • Unhurried, in-person advice on choosing frames

Three things worth knowing

The short version of what you'll find when you come in.

Eye tests

A proper eye test, taken at a sensible pace, with time to ask whatever you want to ask about the results.

Frames you won't see elsewhere

We buy our own frames from independent makers, so what's on our shelves isn't what's on every high street in the country.

NHS vouchers

We accept NHS optical vouchers, and we'll tell you plainly what yours covers before you choose anything.

Fifty years in one place

We've not moved, and a lot of our customers haven't either.

Questions we're asked

If yours isn't here, ask us in person — it's usually quicker.

Do you accept NHS optical vouchers?

Yes. Bring your voucher along and we'll go through exactly what it covers before you pick anything out.

Are you part of a chain?

No. We're independent, and we've been on the same street since 1974.

What sort of frames do you stock?

Frames from independent makers — the sorts of ranges the big chains don't carry. If you've been finding the same frames everywhere you look, you won't find them here.

Can I have my eye test with you?

Yes, eye tests are what we do. Come in and we'll sort one out.

Come in and see us

Whether it's an eye test, an NHS voucher to use, or a look at frames you haven't seen before, we're where we've always been.

That was built from one paragraph.

Every independent optician is different, so yours would not look like this one — it would come from what you type about your own business.

What you are not seeing: a real published site also carries the owner’s phone number as a tap-to-call link, their email and address, and a live enquiry form wired to their dashboard. None of those appear above, because they are real contact details and this business does not exist. We won’t invent a phone number to make a demo look better. The photographs are ours, not the engine’s. They sit where an owner’s uploads sit and are passed to the page the same way, so you can see what this becomes once somebody adds their own. The engine chose the layout, the palette, the typefaces and the order of the page. It never chooses a picture, because it has no way of knowing what your work looks like.
